MOLECULAR BIOLOGY LAB

FUNCTIONS AND MISSION

The main functions of the laboratory are to serve training and scientific research in the field of molecular biology, genetic engineering and their applications, i.e.:

  • • Being the place for students to implement practical activities in courses such as genetics, molecular biology, genetic engineering and applications, diagnosis of plant diseases, advanced molecular biology.
  • • Being the academic space where the lecturers and students can execute the scientific researches related to molecular biology and genetic engineering.
  • • Being the facilities where bachelor, master and doctoral students can conduct their theses
  • • Being the place where students can hone their professional skills according to their desires via extracurricular activities.

MAIN EQUIPMENTS

  • The lab is equipped with basic equipment to carry out professional work related to molecular biology and genetic engineering applications such as:
  • • The deep freezers and cooler to store samples and specialized chemicals
  • • Basic equipment such as balance, magnetic stirrer, vortex-spindown, pH meter, water distiller, centrifuges, etc. for sample preparation for sample preparation
  • • Microvolume spectrophotometers for DNA quantifying and purity identifying.
  • • The key devices such as ELISA system for diagnosis, UV-vis for active chemical analysis, thermal cycler and real-time thermal cycler for DNA fragments isolation and amplification
  • • The electrophoresis system and gel imager for DNA banding data obtaining

MAIN RESEARCH ORIENTATION AND ACHIVEMENT

  • The main research fields and achievements of the laboratory have been the studies on:
  • • Studies on genetic diversity and variation of natural plant/animal populations to establish the scientific base for conservation, of cultivar sets to assist plant breeding
  • • Establishing molecular markers for identification of commercial and mutant cultivars
  • • Plant disease diagnosis using ELISA, PCR, RT-PCR techniques.
  • • Phylogeny
